Organic Rices
Rice is an essential in the Japanese pantry and an important source for dietary minerals and carbohydrates. Nijiya Market has been in the works with a special rice grower in Sacramento, Ca. This farm has been growing three particular types of short grain rice organically. Keeping our rice organic is a promise for a delicious and safe to eating experience.This is especially true when eating brown rice, because the only things that touch the organic rice kernels are the wind, sun and water.

Our premium signiture and best selling rice is the “organic akita komachi”, which is a high quality rice born in Japan. When cooked, it absorbs a high amount of water which gives it great texture and taste. It’s high quality has made it a favorite in Japan. Nijiya’s “organic akita komachi” is a nonglutinous rice which is also known as uruchi-mai.
“Organic Nijiya mai”is a more affordable choice for the kitchen pantry Nijiya Market offers. It is a high class California rice that is also a nonglutinous rice. Japanese rice such as the “organic Nijiya mai” is sticky which makes it easier to eat because they hang together.

“Organic mochi gome(rice)” is a glutinous rice, also known as sweet rice, that is used primarily to make confections, to make a special rice dish used for celebrations (sekihan), or to make mochi, a soft rice cake that is served around the New Year. Ordinarily, rice by boiling; however, mochi rice is steamed. To make mochi rice cakes, the hot rice is pounded over and over until it becomes a dough which is shaped into cakes.
